"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" - an overview without revealing too much
I loved this movie. As noted in a previous post, the "resemblance" between Jacko and Willie Wonka was superficial at best. It was a non-issue for me a few seconds into Johnny's wonderful portrayal. Might add more to the list as I remember more bits/pieces.

What I liked:

Though the main scenes and basic flow remain familar, the looks are more enhanced with today's visual technology (same basic designs, bigger set budget). Loved the squirrels. The choco-river looks like chocolate instead of brown water.

The Oompa-Loompa musical numbers. No longer generic monotoned, these (still poker-faced) folks liven things up with the various genres of musical styles, celebrating each bratty child's misfortune. We also get a nice little side story about how the Oompa-Loompas came to be there.

Some of the kids' characters were updated for today's youth. The same personality flaws, but portrayed in more modern terms.

Christopher Lee. 'Nuff said.

Clever addition to the chocolate-bar transport scene.

Totally kid-friendly. The biggest subtle adult humor was, "don't touch that squirrel's nuts." But not dumbed down; plenty of humor to keep adults entertained.

What I didn't like:

Mike Teevee was meaner this time around. I rooted for him in the first one, but I wanted to slap him in this portrayal.

A bit disappointed in the choco-river tunnel ride.

Some comments that might be pseudo-spoilers if you haven't seen it yet )
