Well, I've been officially designated as co-coordinator for San Antonio Pagan Pride Day. This should prove interesting. I think what I've learned in the Knowledge Management field will serve me well here.

Magnitude 6.6 earthquake strikes off Solomon Islands, USGS is reporting. The location of the earthquake was about 22.4 miles deep, making it a shallow earthquake (these cause more damage).

In other news, the first S.A. Pagan Pride Day planning meeting went exceptionally well. It was funny to see all the pagans with planners or Blackberries, coordinating dates. We have a theme, "Spirituality Through Diversity," and the site is already paid for. Two big details which leave us clear to build the rest around.

Cold meats and salads at my folks' house. Poppy & Forrest did beautifully on Christmas day, surrounded by 9 people. Poppy made a play for the ham on the table, but we caught her before she managed to pull it down.

It's one of the oldest celebrations in the world and has drawn visitors to Stonehenge for centuries.

But 300 pagans were left red-faced yesterday after they arrived at the prehistoric monument a day early for the winter solstice.

The crowd had met at the mystical site
in Wiltshire to mark the shortest day of the year, normally December
21, but this year the solstice did not become official until the early
hours of this morning.

So they were forced to spend a cold night shivering outside in their full-length cloaks.

The solstice does not always fall on the December 21 because the modern calendar of 365 days per year does not correspond exactly to the solar year of 365.2422 days.

But while 600 people turned up today
for the official ceremony, around 300 arrived yesterday to find out
they had got the date wrong.

'People
always assume that because the summer solstice is on June 21, the
winter solstice will be on December 21. They should always check
because it does change.'

Americans are in a war that pits the politically correct against Christmas carolers, some say. They say it's a battle that plays out in the halls of Congress, retail stores and public schools across the country, and it's one that's been raging for years.

Republican Rep. Henry Brown of South Carolina introduced a resolution this month asking that the House express support for the use of Christmas symbols and traditions and frown on any attempt to ban references to the holiday.

Barry Lynn, an ordained minister and executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, isn't keen on the prospect of congressional action.

Since we had our Mac crash, a lot of the downloaded applications were lost. I don't remember which one it was that I had on my desktop that I could upload entries with. It supported Mac OS X. Anyone have a clue? I don't want to download the wrong one. Thanks!

Hello from chilly Washingon DC! I'm here on a TDY, and just now have had the time to get near a computer. We missed the brunt of the NE winter storm; just some light cold rain. I have a 60" plasma TV in my hotel room. :) So there's my update; back in San Antonio on Friday night!

The Christmas tree has a new top this year; a Santa dressed in the older European style, with additions (staff, eye patch etc) to transform him into Odin. When you've got pagan beliefs and mainstream mixing, it makes for some interesting blends of culture! I'll get a picture up later.

Could we actually have snow in the San Antonio area on Friday? Woo-hoo! The weather service predicts that Bexar County has a 60-70 percent chance of receiving a half-inch to an inch of snowfall.
