It's been a great 4 days off; today is day 5, the last one. *sigh* The time went SO quickly!

Going to see "Up" today, and we have a 30% chance of rain. At least we can count on a movie. ;)

Whatever your views on her acting abilities or career, she was a courageous woman who played out a very private battle under a very public microscope. She shared her struggle with cancer in a way that stripped the "blonde beauty icon" label away, and revealed a touching, gritty, determined soul.

RIP, Farrah. May your strength on this journey be the inspiration to others that you hoped it would be.

Gays and lesbians in San Antonio are publicly thanking Mayor Julian Castro. They were at Thursday's city council meeting to show their appreciation for his decision to serve as the grand marshal for this year's Gay Pride Parade. ItÂ will markÂ the first time that a San Antonio mayor has taken part in the event.

Castro tells News 4 WOAI that he accepted the invitation becauseÂ San Antonio is an inclusive city and, "we have respect and we value each and every San Antonian in our community."

Phillip Barcena of Gay Pride SA told Castro, "Your courage and commitment are valued by our community."

Nobody at the meeting spoke out against the mayor's involvement but conservative radio talk show host Adam McManus has been urging listeners to e-mail Castro in protest. McManus tells News 4 WOAI, "there is no reason to have pride in something that God calls a sin." He organized a similar campaign when Police Chief Bill McManus served as the grand marshal of the Gay Pride Parade two years ago.

In a recent dance class, the teacher (a 30 something) instructed everyone to put their hands at the level of their chest. She demonstrated this by placing hers a few inches below her collar bone. I spent 9 hours at Fiesta Texas on Saturday with my 13-yr-old daughter, making the most of some free tickets. The legs were a little sore on Sunday, not bad, but this morning everything from the hips down was saying, "What were you thinking?" Ow.

thoughts on social networking, and a question

Obviously, I enjoy blogging on LiveJournal. My finger is in the pot of MySpace, Blogger, Twitter and some other social network sites. It's fun and interesting to talk to others about common interests, and get new perspectives.

But there are SO many options out there! I have to wonder; how does anyone find enough hours in the day to do ALL of them? It's exhausting just keeping up with some. I've had to do some self-examination (aka, "step away from the keyboard") to narrow things down to what I would really actually use, vs joining something because it's "in." (Yes, Twitter is still teetering on the edge, but I am loathe to give it up just yet.) However, it seems some folks are literally everywhere.

My Pack Rat Syndrome nature does tend to lend itself to collecting blogs and profiles, partly due to a proprietary bent about my on-line name and partly to being drawn to bright shiny objects. Like the advertisement for "Up," the next Pixar movie. "I am Dug the dog, my master made me this collar to.... SQUIRREL!!" My tendency is, "I am Seshen, I like to talk about Wicca and current events, and..... NEW ONLINE TOY!!!!"

Thankfully I'm not into gaming or virtual communities like Second Life, or this post would be moot.

So, I was curious. What do YOU get out of blogging and social networking? Any of the reasons above, or something else?

From early info, he was shooting a movie in Bangkok and failed to show up to a restaurant where the film crew was having dinner and expecting him. A producer went to his room and found him dead, so far apparently of natural causes. He was 73.
