weirdest food you've ever had

I heard on our local news station this morning the latest "weird food I've eaten" entry from viewers. It was a mayonnaise, peanut butter and onions sandwich (the poor morning anchors have to chow down on said weird food on the air - what a way to start the day). The other one was a sliced red beets and ketchup sandwich. The second one actually got a "not half bad" from the weatherman.

So, what's the strangest food combo you've ever had (and/or continue to eat)?

Well, we've got our Triple Crown contender for this year, Big Brown, who won by 4 3/4 lengths. But the moment was tempered with sorrow, as 2nd-place filly Eight Belles had to be euthanized on the track after breaking her two front ankles about a 1/4 mile past the finish line.

Thoroughbred, high-strung and unfortunately, much more delicate than they look. You both ran a grand race - I'm sorry that it had to be mixed in with such a tragedy.

brief thoughts on the FLDS polygamist sect case here in Texas

This mass removal and CPS's scattering of the children so quickly will only hurt the case, and do much more psychological damage to the younger children than was happening in the compound. They should have taken out the men, left the women and children there, and questioned each separately while not completely disrupting the children's lives. Separating the genders would have ceased any ongoing abuse during the investigation, while still maintaining more control over who was where. Much as I love my state of Texas, CPS's record here for keeping track of foster children is appalling.

Rock star Bruce Springsteen endorsed Democratic Sen. Barack Obama for president today, saying "he speaks to the America I've envisioned in my music for the past 35 years."
A reminder that the final (as I recall) Clinton/Obama debate is on ABC tonight, 7:00 pm CST.

A new "Desperate Housewives" is on tonight.

It's 72° and sunny outside.

Yesterday's party went great - Alex got a new MP3 player which is currently attached to her, and we got to see kyllo's European pictures.

Got a beautiful purple/gold shawl from Belgium, nice!

I think the sink is finally unstopping, and I'm looking at BLTs for lunch.

Good feedback on the YouTube video; have 2 more topics in mind.

She's very impressed by that. ;) Didn't want a small cake/candles for today, she wanted donuts (that's what we get for watching the Simpsons all the time) to celebrate. Cake is for her party on Saturday.

We got her a Buddy Holly picture ready for framing, and we went to Popeye's for dinner (it's her favorite food). Hot fudge sundaes afterwards.

She's been on a growth spurt lately, rapidly catching up with me. Granted, that won't take much doing. ;)

Afterthoughts on the video experience

Looks like the video is coming across visually better than I'd thought. Bonus! We actually had a much higher quality ready, but it went JUST over the 1 GB YouTube limit. However, we'll be playing with iMovie compression modes to see what will work best.

Several people have mentioned my attire. The most convenient time for me to get some uninterrupted time will be after work, so in general you'll be seeing "office professional" because that's exactly what I'll be in. The background is my personal altar; I have 4-tiered shelves on either side of the coffee table I use as my working altar. Height-wise, it works well with me sitting on the floor and the camera perched on our heater unit.

Glad to hear my presentation was paced OK and I didn't stutter or nothin'. ;) Believe me, it's taken years to get to that point. One of the pointers Boni gave me a while back, to learn how to be a better priestess, was to do what he did - put yourself in the spotlight, in situations where you have to pull it together and be articulate. That's the main reason I started my first Meetup group (there are 3 now); to hone those skills. If someone asked me a question, I couldn't fudge it and let him take the lead if I were struggling. It was sink or swim. Apparently, the effort has paid off. Go me! I highly recommend, if you cannot do this, to take a public speaking course, Toastmasters or some other place where you can get comfortable with speaking.

My main obstacles to still overcome are 1) being too formal; I need to relax into it more and let more of my personality come out, and 2) tuck my head down so I'm looking straight into the camera; I have a tendency to hold my head up too high. I think the scariest part about it was that you can't go back and change a word or phrase like you can do in text. What you say is what they get.

Otherwise, I'm pleased with the first effort. Poor Boni, my wonderful husband, put up with my impatience while getting the thing edited, and my frustration when YouTube went into maintenance mode soon after I'd uploaded and I had to wait to make sure everything had come through OK. Thanks, babe!

Now, what to talk about next? Hmmmm......

The quality is a bit grainy, so I'm not sure how it will show up on other people's computers, but not bad for a first attempt using a digital camera. Since now we have a better idea of how to edit in iMovies, the next one should have a much sharper image. At least, that's the plan. ;)
