It's presently called the Berean Baptist Church. Corner of Diamond (I think) and North Broad, Philadelphia, PA.

Wow. That's really cool looking. And quite a change from what Baptist churches look like in Texas.

Well, the pentagram has a long history of use as a symbol in Christianity. It represented the Five Wounds of Christ. Though, it's kind of odd to find that in a Baptist Church. Quite beautiful, and I agree - that church is not like any of the Baptist ones I ever attended.

If I recall from medieval studies, also represents the five virtues of Mary, although I have no memory even from Catholic school of what those five virtues purportedly were. And it was the symbol on Sir Gawain's shield in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

Baptist churches up north are apparently a bit different. All the ones here look like the church came in a box, and they threw out the church and kept the box. Hardly any windows, and all the architectural grace of a set of legos.

That is one of the most beautiful churches I've ever seen. It has an ethereal quality.

Although, I know nothing of the history of this church, a few people have commented on teh fact that it looks peculiar for a Baptist Church.
While it could be an old Baptist chuch likely part of the American Baptists which are considerably more moderate and mainstream than their Southern Baptist brethren, it's also very possible that this was an upstart Baptist congregation which purchased the old structure from a different church who was either shrinking and dying or perhaps moving to a new building.

Regardless, it is a neat looking facility.
