"Covencraft" by Amber K
It's been on my bookshelf for a while; picked it up at Half-Price Books a while back to see what all the fuss was about.

Been browsing through the basics. Had to stop because I started to twitch. Oy.

Anyone else read this gem?

There's a lot that made me groan, too, but I still recommend it to people because I think it can be very useful as far as helping folks plan events and understand the organizational aspects and interpersonal dynamics that go into creating a successful large group. A lot of us may not have had previous experience with this sort of thing, and therefore a book like that is certainly helpful. Which, of course, isn't to say that I agree with everything she says, only that in the absence of a better book on the topic I don't mind suggesting it to folks who are considering starting up their own groups.

Agreed. I have both CovenCraft and RitualCraft, and while there's bits that make me cringe in both, some of the organisational information is very useful.

Having met Amber K, and having been underwhelmed, no, I haven't read any of her books.

Sometimes it's wonderful living in an area where so many Pagan authors live...other times...not so much.

I've got it, but haven't read it in yonks. What made you twitch?

:-)

It's interesting how our view of things changes as we grow in age and wisdom. Stuff we wouldn't have looked askance at a decade ago now makes us twitch and roll our eyes. Is this progress? Or something else?

I've been an 'insider' for over 30 years, and yes, I cringe when I read stuff I wrote or said back in '87 (ten years in study, 7 in AMORC at that point). Hey, I thought I knew everything back then- after all, I was an Initiated High Priestess! Today, I know better, and have 'demoted' myself to Philosopher-Geek, or for folks who understand, Magus. I listen more than I talk, and prefer plain to fancy.

At this point I remember reading something by her that made me twitch so bad she's on my level two list of authors I don't recommend (i.e. not as bad as Ravenwolf, mcCoy, etc), but can't for the life of me remember at this point whatit was I read or objected to.
